Millennials: Selling to the Latest Generation

Millennials think outside the box. So should their agents.

Any millennial will tell you that the term itself is a bit degrading. Not because they are ashamed of their generation but because they don't appreciate the negative connotation it brings.

Millennials are a part of a new society. One that has not known what it means to wait for things. They have known a life built around technology and efficiency.

While the generation before was inundated with magazine and television ads (around 500/day), this new generation is used to being blasted from every direction, including social media. It is said that they see as many as 5,000 ads/day.

This means that as a real estate agent with something unique to offer, you cannot put up the usual billboard ad or bus sign. You have to think outside of the box.

Millennials genuinely care about the world around them. What have you done to make the world a better place? What is your work/life balance philosophy? THESE are the key things about you that they care about.

You need to be a person. Not just an empty shell whose social media accounts are all about selling your properties. You have to let millennials know who you are. This is the beauty of the millennial generation. They care. The connect. They want to know that you are real.

Millennials are turned off by the fake and emptiness of advertising. They *want* to see on your social media that you went for a run with your dog. That you took your kids to see a play. That you were frustrated in traffic. The key component is to be real.

For all of the negative connotations associated with millennials, the fact that they want authenticity is beautiful. We're lucky to have them in the world.
